#flythetransflag how you can get involved

On Tuesday 20th November we remember trans+ people across the world who have lost their lives through transphobic violence.

This year in the UK has been one of the most challenging in recent times: with a massive upsurge in transphobia in mainstream and social media as the government consulted on reforming the Gender Recognition Act. The rise in transphobia in day to day life, and an increased fear of transphobic hate crime means that trans+ people (who are already the most likely to attempt suicide, suffer from isolation anxiety and depression of all marginalised groups) and their significant others are now telling Chrysalis that they are even more scared.

These are just some of the things we have been told since the consultation closed:
"Just when I was starting to come to terms with my own gender, I realised I didn't feel safe anymore. That telling other people what I know, and being honest about that, could put my life in danger. I'm scared" L

"The impact of the trans witch hunt is fear. We are finding life scarier than usual. The only time I've ever been more stressed than this, I wasn't out at work. I might add that I was actually suicidal the day that Metro ad came out. It was all so terribly much." B

So Chrysalis is asking for our allies to take a stand, to make a statement that they stand beside their trans+ colleagues, friends and loved ones. To promote acceptance, diversity, and inclusiveness. To say to those close to you that it's OK to be who you are, it's OK to be trans+.
